What I really love about Shakespeare

Hey actor! In case we haven’t met yet, I’m Sarah Guillot.

I’m an acting coach & Shakespeare specialist.

For the last few years I’ve been helping actors nab main roles and spots at competitive drama schools through my joyful, practical, no-BS approach to text and embodiment.

Shakespeare’s a phenomenal writer, you can’t argue with that.

And it is such FUN to perform his works (once you get a handle on the techniques!).

But what I love most is that working on Shakespeare makes us technically excellent, physically dynamic and playful actors.

When we practice Shakespeare, we’re actually practicing:

  • Precision control over your body and voice
  • Adaptability to different performance styles, genres and venues
  • Playing unusual high stakes situations (like when your husband of 24 hours kills your cousin)
  • Connecting to heightened texts of all sorts (including sci fi, fantasy, comedy and other period drama)
  • Knowing all that technical stuff and still being able to be PRESENT.

But being really flippin’ good at that takes practice. That’s why I created weekly ongoing classes, so you can push your technique and get feedback from a coach you trust (that’s me!).

I know you want to be a versatile, excellent actor who works across stage and screen.

But there are a few things in the way.

You don't have buckets of money to pour into expensive classes that give you zero feedback.

You haven't found the right teacher that makes Shakespeare feel joyful and doable.

You're tired of classes focusing only on film and TV techniques. (When will they realise that theatre is still a thing?!)

And now you’d just really love it if there were drop-in classes where you could work consistently on your voice, movement and script analysis.

That’s what I’ve created. Lemme tell you about it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I have to stay a member for a full year?

A: This is a month-by-month membership, so you can stay with us for as long as you find it beneficial to your practice!

Q: What sorts of techniques do you teach in the classes?

A: I choose special topics each month to dive into specific techniques within the Analysis, Embodiment & Freedom categories (moving through my signature framework!).

To give you a taste, our topics for July are:

– Connecting to Sound

– Naturalistic Shakespeare

– Breaking Vocal Habits

I also host a small group coaching call each month so you can get feedback on your work or ask questions specific to your situation.

We generally work on a focus monologue or scene each month, however you can also choose your own text.

No preparation is required for classes, except for our group coaching class, where you can show a prepared monologue or scene for feedback if you wish.

Q. What time are the classes?

A: Our weekly class times rotate as follows (one class per week):

  • Mondays 6.30pm EDT/11.30pm BST
  • Tuesdays 9pm EDT/2am BST
  • Sundays 8am EDT/1pm BST

You can convert to your timezone here.

We follow this pattern over the course of the month, e.g. Monday Week 1, Tuesday Week 2, Sunday Week 3, Monday Week 4, and so on.

I send an email at the start of the month to let you know about topics and times.

Q: Do I need to come to class every week?

A: Nope! It’s unlikely you’ll be able to attend every single class live – and that’s the way it should be! I designed this membership so you can fit it in around other classes and commitments, because I believe actors should be working on developing a variety of skills.

I encourage you to aim to attend 1-2 classes per month, and catch up on replays when you feel you need them. Replays will be shared in the Facebook group and saved in the Members’ Portal.

Q: Do I get individual feedback as part of this membership?

A: I believe individualised feedback is a crucial part of your development. We have at least one group coaching session per month, which is capped at a maximum of 8 participants. In this session, you’re encouraged to prepare a scene or monologue to share with the group, and I will give you feedback and suggestions of next steps to keep you growing as an actor.

Q: Seriously though, do acting classes over Zoom even WORK?

A: Yeah they do! I’ve been teaching primarily on Zoom since 2020, and by now I know which exercises are doable online… and there are a LOT of them! In fact, I prefer online lessons now. And I’m not just saying that. I’m so pleased that online teaching gives opportunities for people to join who usually wouldn’t be able to access classes. We still get up and move around and do 99% of the things you would do in an in-person class. If you’re still not sure, take a look at the class recording at the top of this page and join in for yourself.

Q: How much does it cost?

A: $27 US dollars per month, for as long as you want to stay a member.

Q: What is your cancellation policy?

A: If you change your mind, you can cancel within 7 days and receive a full refund.

Q: What exactly am I getting?

A: Short answer: a live Zoom class each week, opportunities for direct feedback and coaching with me, a membership portal full of on-demand tutorial videos, and ongoing support from me (and your fellow actors) in our private Facebook group.

Q: Is this membership suitable for beginners?

A: Beginners are welcome. There are plenty of resources in our members’ portal to get you up to speed quickly so you can join live classes without feeling bamboozled.
